Amazon Excursion Sandoval Lake-2 days

Day 1: Puerto Maldonado – Lake Sandoval

Amazon Trip – Lake Sandoval – Your adventure begins with a warm welcome at the Puerto Maldonado airport or bus terminal. Our representative will greet you and take you to our office, where you can leave your main luggage and prepare a backpack with your essential items for the trip. From there, we head to a local port to board a motorboat that will navigate the impressive Madre de Dios River.

During the journey, you’ll have the opportunity to observe a wide variety of wildlife, including mammals, birds, lizards, monkeys, turtles, and caimans basking on the shores. We will arrive at the Sandoval Lake Reserve checkpoint, where we will complete the necessary registrations before starting a 3 km hike through the jungle (approximately 1.5 hours). This hike will take us to our reserve, where we will board a canoe that will take us to the lodge.

After settling in and enjoying a revitalizing lunch, we embark on an exciting canoe excursion on the lake to observe its typical inhabitants: giant river otters, black caimans, the prehistoric bird shansho, herons, cormorants, and kingfishers, among others. We return to the lodge for dinner and then prepare for a fascinating nighttime caiman observation, guided by our expert naturalist who will share their knowledge about these impressive reptiles. We spend the night at the lodge, immersed in the tranquility of the jungle.

Day 2:

Amazon Excursion -Lake Sandoval and Return to Puerto Maldonado .

We wake up to the melodious sound of birds and enjoy a nourishing breakfast before setting off in our paddle canoe to the Collpa de Palmeras, a swampy area where various species of macaws and parrots gather to feed on the fruits of the palm trees, rich in essential vitamins and minerals for their digestion.

Back at the lodge, we thoroughly explore the primary forest and its understory, admiring the majestic Brazil nut trees, which are vital to the local economy. During our walk, we explore medicinal plants such as ayahuasca and Chuchuhuasi, while observing monkeys like the brown capuchin, squirrel monkey, howler monkey, and more. We also have the opportunity to see tarantulas, insects, frogs, and other mammals like armadillos and sloths.

After lunch at the lodge, we prepare for the return journey. We navigate the lagoon by paddle canoe, followed by a hike back to the checkpoint. From there, we travel up the Madre de Dios River in a motorboat back to Puerto Maldonado.

In the city, we collect our luggage from the office and head to the airport or bus terminal, concluding an enriching and exciting experience in the heart of the Peruvian Amazon.
