Andean Adventure: Discover the Treasures of the Sacred Valley
Embark on an unforgettable journey through the majestic Andean landscapes and explore five cultural and natural gems of the Sacred Valley of the Incas.
Chinchero: Land of the Rainbow and Living Tradition
Located at over 3,700 meters above sea level, Chinchero is a picturesque Andean village known as the “Land of the Rainbow.” Its residents, direct descendants of the Incas, proudly preserve ancient traditions, handwoven textiles, and age-old agricultural techniques. Chinchero is one of the last living strongholds of authentic Quechua culture.
Moray: The Inca Agricultural Laboratory
Moray is one of the most fascinating archaeological sites in the Cusco region. Its concentric circular terraces were used by the Incas as an experimental agricultural center, where they adapted crops to different microclimates. These terraces allowed control over humidity, temperature, altitude, and soil pH to boost agricultural productivity throughout the empire.
Maras Salt Mines: The Ancient Salt Flats of Cusco
Perched on a mountainside, the Maras Salt Mines consist of over 4,000 salt pools fed by a natural underground spring. As the water evaporates, salt crystals form—rich not only in sodium chloride but also in essential minerals like calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc, and copper. A stunning landscape and an ancestral resource still harvested by hand using traditional methods.
Ollantaytambo: Living Inca Town and Gateway to Machu Picchu
Ollantaytambo is more than just an Inca fortress—it’s a living town built upon original Inca foundations. Known as the main gateway to Machu Picchu, Ollantaytambo was once a key military, religious, and agricultural center. Today, it offers a unique glimpse into the harmonious blend of Inca heritage and modern life.
Pisaq: Strategic Overlook of the Sacred Valley
Pisaq was a major Inca tambo, crucial for the administration and agriculture of the Antisuyo (the Amazonian region of the Inca Empire). Strategically located high in the mountains, it served as a checkpoint for people entering the imperial capital of Cusco. Its impressive agricultural terraces, temples, and military structures overlook the Sacred Valley with breathtaking views.

What Is the Best Time to Visit the Sacred Valley of the Incas?
Adventures Peru Trip Valle Sagrado 1 Día The best time to visit the Sacred Valley of the Incas is during the dry season, which runs from April to October. During these months, the weather is more stable, with clear skies and lower chances of rain, making it ideal for exploring the Andean landscapes, archaeological sites, and enjoying outdoor activities.
In contrast, the rainy season, from November to March, often brings clouds, fog, and heavy showers, which can limit visibility and make some tours more difficult. Tip: For an unforgettable experience, plan your visit in May, June, or July, when the fields are green, the weather is perfect, and major cultural festivals like Inti Raymi take place.
