Itineray The Tour Manu 2 days
DAY 1: Cusco – Ninamarca – Paucartambo – Cloud Forest – Lodge in Pilcopata
We begin this nature-filled adventure early in the morning. Our team will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco to start an unforgettable journey to one of the most biodiverse places on the planet: Manu National Park.
Our first stop is Ninamarca, a pre-Incan archaeological site known for its mysterious Chullpas—ancient funerary towers that connect us with Andean ancestral cultures. We then continue to the charming colonial town of Paucartambo, famous for its traditional architecture, vibrant folklore, and patron festivals.
Afterward, we ascend to the Acjanaco Pass (3,500 m / 11,500 ft), the official entry point to Manu National Park. From this natural viewpoint, the landscape transforms dramatically as we enter the stunning Cloud Forest, an ecosystem with constant mist and high humidity, home to a vast variety of flora and fauna.
As we descend, we’ll take interpretive walks along forest trails where we may observe:
- Endemic orchids
- Giant ferns and epiphytic bromeliads
- Ancient mosses and lichens
With a bit of luck, you might spot the Andean Cock-of-the-Rock (Peru’s national bird), the elusive Spectacled Bear, quetzals, howler monkeys, and a variety of hummingbirds and butterflies.
After a picnic lunch surrounded by nature, we head to the warm village of Pilcopata, where we’ll stay at Bambú Lodge, located at 800 m (2,625 ft) above sea level in a transition zone between high and low jungle—ideal for wildlife observation.
In the evening, after a traditional dinner, you’ll have the optional opportunity to take a night walk and discover nocturnal species such as frogs, bioluminescent insects, and possibly a mammal in its natural habitat. You’ll also enjoy a spectacular starry sky, free from light pollution.
Included: Lunch and Dinner. Accommodation in eco-lodge.
DAY 2: The Tour Manu Pilcopata – Puerto Atalaya – Lake Machuwasi – Return to Cusco
We start the day with the chance to witness a magical sunrise in the jungle. The calls of tropical birds and lush surroundings offer the perfect natural wake-up. After a healthy breakfast, we drive to Puerto Atalaya, where we board a motorized boat to navigate the Madre de Dios River.
During the river journey, you may spot a variety of riverside wildlife, such as:
- Kingfishers
- Cormorants
- River turtles
- Small caimans
Parrots and macaws flying in pairs
Later, we’ll hike along eco-trails through the rainforest, where we’ll learn about:
- Amazonian medicinal plants
- Endemic insects and butterflies
- Survival techniques
Animal tracks, possibly of tapirs or armadillos
This trail leads us to the serene Lake Machuwasi, a quiet mirror-like body of water rich in biodiversity. We’ll board a handcrafted rustic raft to explore the lake silently and observe animals in their natural state, such as:
- Capybaras
- Capuchin monkeys
- Great herons
- Toucans and woodpeckers
Tropical birds like kiskadees and cardinals
We’ll wrap up this incredible experience with a typical Amazonian lunch, then begin our journey back to Cusco, arriving around 7:00 p.m. with unforgettable memories and a camera full of amazing shots.
Included: Breakfast and Lunch. End of our services.
