Itinerary Overview – 6 Days in Manu’s Reserved Zone
Day 1: The Manu Reserved from Cusco to Pilcopata – Entering the Cloud Forest
Your adventure begins bright and early in Cusco at 5:00 a.m., traveling from the highlands to the tropical jungle. The scenic drive is a stunning transition from mountain landscapes to lush forest.
Ninamarca Tombs: Visit ancient pre-Incan funerary towers, steeped in Lupaca cultural heritage.
Paucartambo: Stop in this colonial town, rich with traditional music, festivals, and local life.
Acjanaco Pass: At 3,490 meters, enjoy breathtaking views from the official gateway into Manu.
Cloud Forest: Descend into dense cloud forests filled with orchids, hummingbirds, the rare Andean Cock-of-the-Rock, woolly monkeys, and more.
Overnight: Eco-lodge nestled in nature. Dinner and rest prepare you for the journey ahead.
Day 2: The Manu Reserved Pilcopata to Boca Manu – River Adventures Begin
After breakfast, continue by vehicle to Atalaya Port, stopping along the way to visit:
A scenic overlook with jungle views
A wildlife rescue center
A traditional coca plantation
Then, board a motorized canoe and begin cruising the Madre de Dios River, a major Amazon tributary. Keep an eye out for:
