During this morning’s visit by the delegation, investments were

observed that enhance the visitor experience with improved access, proximity, and security.

To further enhance the enjoyment and comfort of visitors to this protected natural area, an elevated viewpoint with sanitary

facilities and an elevated trail of nearly 500 meters has been constructed.

These infrastructures not only provide greater comfort to visitors but also reduce the impact on the feeding activity of placid and mammals.

Day 1: Exploration from Cusco to Puerto Maldonado

Begin your journey with a transfer to the airport for a flight to Puerto Maldonado. Upon arrival, you will be warmly welcomed and taken to the “Collpas” Lodge.

Day 2: Discover the Majestic Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick

Visit the incredible Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick, home to the largest concentration of macaws in the world. Immerse yourself in a nighttime jungle walk to explore its unique nightlife.

Day 3: Jungle Adventures: Piranha Fishing, Mammal Clay Lick

Explore the jungle and test your skill in piranha fishing in one of the wildest rivers. Discover the mysterious Mammal Clay Lick at a secret jungle location.

In the afternoon, enjoy an exciting kayaking session.

Day 4: Return to Puerto Maldonado and Beyond

Enjoy your final morning in the jungle with breakfast before heading to Puerto Maldonado airport for your flight back to Lima or Cusco.

Day 1: Puerto Maldonado – Tambopata Lodge

Your adventure begins with a warm welcome at the bus terminal or Puerto Maldonado airport.

Our team will take you to our office for registration and an introductory talk with our guide.

After enjoying a delicious breakfast, we head to the lodge through a rustic trail winding through the dense Amazon jungle, approximately a 2-hour journey.

Upon reaching a small port, a motorized boat awaits to take us upstream for 30 minutes to our lodge.

During this journey, you may spot birds, capybaras, and caimans among the lush wildlife.

At the lodge, you will be welcomed with a typical jungle refreshment, cocona, followed by a comforting lunch.

After a brief rest, we will embark on a trail hike to explore ancient trees, medicinal plants, insects, spiders, and various mammals inhabiting this biodiverse region.

In the evening, guided by our expert naturalist, we venture on an exciting caiman and bird watching excursion along the river.

Return to the lodge for a traditional dinner and rest immersed in the nocturnal sounds of the jungle.

This first day will immerse you in the magic and diversity of the Amazon, offering an authentic and enriching experience.

Day 2: Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick

Wake up early at 4 AM to head to the Macaw Clay Lick.

We will take a motorized boat upstream for 1 hour and 20 minutes, enjoying a spectacular sunrise and hoping to spot

jaguars or anacondas on the banks of the Tambopata National Reserve.

Arrive at the macaw observation platform where you will witness a fascinating natural spectacle from 6:00 to 11:00 AM, featuring

different species of macaws, parrots, and other birds and mammals, enjoying the mineral-rich clay they visit for feeding.

Enjoy breakfast overlooking the Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick.

After breakfast, we will proceed to a checkpoint for registration and then visit a small local museum.

Upon return to the lodge, after a well-deserved lunch and rest, we will head to Quebrada del Gato for a revitalizing swim and learn

about the products cultivated in this rich Madre de Dios Amazon land.

In the afternoon, we will embark on a night walk with flashlights along a trail, observing various species of insects, amphibians,

birds like tarantulas, toads, snakes, and the unique monk saki monkey in the Amazon.

Return to the lodge for dinner and rest under the impressive jungle canopy.

This day will be a deep immersion into the life and culture of the Amazon rainforest, offering unique and memorable experiences.

Day 3: Mammal Clay Lick, Fishing, and Campfire

Start the day with a delicious breakfast before embarking on a two-hour hike along a trail surrounded by medicinal plants. Our

guide will share with you healing techniques using these unique jungle plants.

Next, enjoy sport fishing for piranhas, an exciting and traditional activity in the region.

After returning to the lodge and enjoying a comforting lunch, we will head to the Mammal Clay Lick, where we will observe

different species of animals and birds such as deer, wild pigs, guans, and curassows.

In the evening, gather around a riverside campfire to share stories and beliefs of the Amazon rainforest, including tales of the

mysterious Tunche or Chullachaqui.

This day will be filled with exciting activities and cultural experiences, providing a deeper connection with nature and the local community.

Day 4: Puerto Maldonado – Bus Terminal / Airport

After enjoying a final breakfast in the jungle, we will take a short hike  ride on the El Gato River for 2 hours.

Return to the lodge for lunch and then transfer back to Puerto Maldonado, where we will accompany you to the airport or bus

terminal to conclude this unforgettable adventure in the Peruvian Amazon.

The Collpa Chuncho in the Tambopata National Reserve

(Alto Tambopata sector) reopened its doors this morning for sustainable tourism activities under the promotion of the National Service of Natural Protected Areas by the State (Sernanp), belonging to the Ministry of the Environment (Minam).

Located in the Madre de Dios region, this place stands out for its impressive landscape and for being one of the largest collpas in the country, famous for bird watching, such as macaws, among other species.

During the reopening ceremony, the Deputy Minister of Strategic

Development of Natural Resources highlighted that both Lake Sandoval and Collpa Chuncho have gained recognition in the region. “This wonderful place greatly benefits sustainable tourism. We must recognize that we are part of nature and that the health of nature is fundamental to the health of people. Let’s continue working and reinforcing our commitment to a better country and environment,” she emphasized.

Sernanp, underscored the importance of reopening

“such a significant place as Collpa Chuncho, achieved with the joint effort of our allies, the tour operators. We are complying with all safety protocols and firmly believe that tourism represents a wonderful opportunity for this region.”

The regional governor, Luis Hidalgo, expressed his desire for Madre de Dios to recover the tourism movement it had in previous years. “We must continue promoting the preservation of our natural resources through the joint efforts of the central, regional, local governments, and tour operators. By working together, we can achieve our goals,” he added.
