3-Day Natural Amazon Rainforest Experience – Lake Sandoval, Peru

Day 1:  Natural Peruvian Rainforest Amazon to  Puerto Maldonado – Lake Sandoval – Canopy Tower – Sunset Experience – Night Caiman Spotting –

Upon arrival at the airport or bus terminal in Puerto Maldonado, you’ll be met and transferred to our main office. After check-in and storing your belongings, we begin our adventure to Lake Sandoval.

We head to the main port and board a motorized boat for a scenic journey along the Madre de Dios River. Along the way, we’ll spot birds, turtles, and sunbathing caimans along the riverbanks. Upon arriving at the Lake Sandoval

Reserve checkpoint, we complete our registration and start a 3-kilometer hike through lush rainforest to reach a small dock.

There, we board a wooden paddle canoe and row through a winding, zigzagging creek. After approximately 20 minutes of paddling, we arrive at Lake Sandoval, one of the most biodiverse and beautiful lakes in the Peruvian Amazon.

We continue paddling for about an hour, fully immersed in the lake’s serene natural beauty, before arriving at our lodge, located right on the lake’s edge.

After settling into your private room, enjoy a traditional Amazonian lunch featuring local flavors and ingredients.

In the afternoon, we visit a 20-meter-high canopy tower, offering stunning panoramic views of the jungle. From this

treetop vantage point, you can observe birds such as macaws, toucans, and raptors, as well as monkeys swinging through the trees. It’s a spectacular birdwatching and wildlife-viewing experience in the heart of the Amazon.

As the sun sets over Lake Sandoval, you’ll witness a breathtaking scene as the sky fills with hues of red, orange, and gold.

After dinner, we head out on a night caiman-spotting excursion—a guided paddle along the lake’s edge under the stars, where you can safely observe the Amazon’s nocturnal wildlife.Lake Sandoval Tours.

Day 2:  Amazon Macaw Palm Clay Lick – Amazon Mud Bath  – Primary Forest Hike – Night Walk

We rise early at 5:00 a.m. to visit the Macaw Palm Clay Lick, a natural gathering site where macaws, parrots, and parakeets flock to feed on the mineral-rich bark and fruits of palm trees—especially the aguaje palm (Mauritia flexuosa). This spectacular display of color and sound is one of the Amazon’s most awe-inspiring sights.

Afterward, we return to the lodge for a hearty breakfast before indulging in a natural Amazon mud bath experience.

This traditional therapy revitalizes your skin and renews your energy using nutrient-rich jungle mud—one of the most refreshing and unique wellness moments of the tour.

After lunch, we embark on a guided hike through primary rainforest trails. Encounter towering ancient trees—some between 300 and 500 years old—and observe native plant and animal life along the way. Your guide will help you

identify medicinal plants, unique tree species, and hidden signs of wildlife.

As night falls, join a night walk to discover the Amazon after dark, when an entirely different world of insects, frogs, and nocturnal animals comes to life.

Day 3: Encounter with Giant River Otters – Return to Puerto Maldonado

We begin our final morning at 6:00 a.m. with a search for giant river otters—playful, social mammals that often travel in family groups of up to 12. These charismatic creatures are curious and sometimes approach humans, allowing for

incredible photography opportunities without disturbing their behavior.

After observing the otters, we return to the lodge for breakfast. We then pack our belongings and begin our journey back.

A canoe takes us to the checkpoint, and from there we board a motorized boat for the scenic trip upstream to Puerto Maldonado. Upon arrival in the city, we retrieve our luggage from the office and are transferred to the airport or bus station.

This concludes your unforgettable adventure in the Peruvian Amazon—a journey filled with wonder, connection, and discovery.
