Day 1 – Puerto Maldonado to Sandoval Lake

Meet our team at the airport or bus terminal and travel by boat along the Madre de Dios River. Enter the Sandoval Lake area and hike about 3 km through the rainforest with a naturalist guide. Canoe across Sandoval Lake and look for giant river otters, caimans, monkeys, hoatzins, turtles, and tropical birds. Enjoy sunset at the lake, dinner at the lodge, and a nighttime wildlife search for frogs, insects, caimans, and other nocturnal animals.
Meals: Lunch and dinner.
Overnight: Amazon lodge.

Day 2 – Macaws, Forest & Return to Puerto Maldonado

Wake early and explore the lake by canoe. Visit a palm-fruit feeding area to observe macaws and parrots. Continue through primary rainforest to learn about Amazonian trees, medicinal plants, monkeys, insects, and traditional forest knowledge. Return to the lodge for lunch, then canoe and hike back to the river. Travel by boat to Puerto Maldonado and transfer to the airport or bus terminal.

Day 1: Puerto Maldonado – Sandoval Lake Reserve

Welcome to the Peruvian Amazon : Your Nature  Short Travel Amazon Sandoval 2 days  in Peru begins when our professional team meets you at the Puerto Maldonado airport or bus terminal.

From there, we transfer you to our office, where you will complete the necessary registration and leave any luggage that you do not need during your jungle adventure.

Once everything is ready, we begin our Amazon journey.

Boat Trip Along the Madre de Dios River : We board a motorized boat and travel along the Madre de Dios River, one of the important waterways of the southern Peruvian Amazon.

The boat journey is already an opportunity to begin observing the rainforest. Keep your camera ready as the riverbanks can reveal birds, mammals, reptiles, and other wildlife.

Depending on the season, weather, and animal activity, you may encounter different species along the river and surrounding forest.

The Amazon is wild and unpredictable, which makes every journey unique.

Entering the Sandoval Lake Area : After reaching the entrance to the protected area, we complete the necessary registration before continuing deeper into the rainforest.

From the control point, we begin approximately a 3-kilometer jungle hike toward the small port used to access Sandoval Lake.

The walk takes around 1.5 hours, depending on trail conditions and the pace of the group.

This is much more than a simple walk. Your naturalist guide will introduce you to the rainforest ecosystem and point out interesting plants, insects, birds, animal tracks, and other signs of wildlife along the trail.

Canoeing on Sandoval Lake

When we reach the small port, we board a traditional canoe and paddle across the calm waters of Sandoval Lake.

Moving quietly through the lake allows us to observe nature without creating excessive noise. This peaceful experience is one of the highlights of the journey.

As we explore the lake, we may look for:

Giant river otters , Black caimans ,Hoatzins , Herons , Kingfishers , Turtles , Monkeys , Tropical birds , Other Amazonian wildlife

Wildlife sightings depend on natural conditions and cannot be guaranteed, but the Sandoval Lake ecosystem provides excellent opportunities for observation.

Arrival at the Amazon Lodge : After reaching the lodge, you will be shown to your private room where you can settle in and relax.

We then enjoy lunch surrounded by the sounds and atmosphere of the rainforest.

After lunch, we continue exploring the lake and surrounding forest.

The quiet waters of Sandoval Lake provide an excellent environment for wildlife watching. If you are lucky, you may see giant river otters moving through the water or hear monkeys calling from the trees.

Sunset at Sandoval Lake : As afternoon turns into evening, the landscape begins to change.

The sunlight filters through the trees and reflects across the lake, creating beautiful conditions for photography.

This is a wonderful moment to slow down, appreciate the scenery, and experience the peaceful side of the Amazon rainforest.

After sunset, we return to the lodge for dinner.

Nighttime Wildlife Observation

After dinner, the rainforest becomes a completely different world.

Accompanied by your naturalist guide, we head out for a night wildlife observation.

With the help of a flashlight, we search along the water and forest edges for nocturnal creatures.

Depending on conditions, we may encounter:

Caimans ,Nocturnal birds ,Frogs ,Insects , Spiders ,Monkeys and other animals moving through the forest

The sounds of the jungle become especially noticeable after dark, making this one of the most memorable experiences of the tour.

After the excursion, we return to the lodge for a well-deserved rest.

Day 2: Palm Collpa – Primary Forest – Puerto Maldonado

Sunrise in the Amazon

Wake up early to the sounds of birds calling through the rainforest.

The early morning is one of the best times to experience the Amazon because wildlife activity can increase before the heat of the day.

After getting ready, we begin our morning exploration by canoe.

Palm Collpa: Macaws and Parrots : One of the highlights of the morning is a visit to the Collpa de Palmeras, or palm-fruit feeding area.

Here, we look for colorful macaws and parrots that gather around palm trees to feed on their fruits.

The activity of these birds varies according to the season, availability of food, weather, and other natural conditions.

Watching brightly colored macaws and parrots moving through the palm trees is an unforgettable Amazon experience and a great opportunity for wildlife photography.

Explore the Primary Amazon Forest :

After exploring the palm area, we continue into the primary rainforest.

The forest contains an extraordinary variety of plants, trees, insects, and animals. Your naturalist guide will explain how different species interact and how traditional Amazonian knowledge has developed from generations of living alongside the forest.

We may encounter:

Amazonian monkeys, Tarantulas , Colorful insects ,Tropical birds , Chestnut trees , Medicinal plants , Ancient , rainforest trees , Other forest wildlife .

The Brazil nut, or chestnut tree, is particularly important in the Amazon because its fruits provide food and support local livelihoods.

You will also learn about medicinal plants and some of their traditional uses in Amazonian communities.

Return to the Lodge :

After our morning exploration, we return to the lodge for lunch.

This is a good time to relax, refresh, and prepare for the journey back to Puerto Maldonado.

After lunch, we collect our belongings and begin our return journey.

Canoeing Across Sandoval Lake : We paddle back across Sandoval Lake, enjoying one final opportunity to appreciate the scenery and wildlife of this remarkable Amazon ecosystem.

From the lake port, we begin our hike back through the rainforest toward the control point.

The approximately 3-kilometer trail gives us another opportunity to observe the forest before leaving the protected area.

Boat Journey Back to Puerto Maldonado

Once we reach the control point, we board our motorized boat and travel along the Madre de Dios River toward Puerto Maldonado.

The return journey provides a final opportunity to enjoy the Amazon landscape and reflect on the experiences of the previous two days.

Upon arrival in Puerto Maldonado, we collect any luggage left at our office.

We then provide transportation to the airport or bus terminal, according to your travel schedule.
