4-Day Peruvian Amazon Jungle Tour Itinerary
Nature and Adventure in Tambopata : Can you imagine waking up surrounded by the sounds of the rainforest, navigating Amazonian rivers, and observing monkeys, birds, caimans, and other wildlife in their natural habitat?
With our 4-Day Peruvian Amazon Jungle Tour, you will enjoy an unforgettable experience in the Tambopata National Reserve, one of the most biodiverse destinations in the Peruvian Amazon.
Over four days, you will explore tropical rainforests, navigate the Madre de Dios River, discover the impressive Sandoval Lake, and enjoy adventure activities such as canopy walks, ziplining, kayaking, and traditional fishing.
This program is designed for travelers looking for nature, adventure, ecotourism, and an authentic connection with the Peruvian Amazon.
Day 1: Arrival in Puerto Maldonado and Transfer to the Lodge
Your adventure begins with your arrival at the airport or bus terminal in Puerto Maldonado, the gateway to the Peruvian Amazon. Our team will welcome you and accompany you to our office, where you will receive all the necessary information and instructions to begin your Tambopata experience.
Afterwards, we will head to the port to board a motorized boat along the Madre de Dios River. As we travel, you will begin to notice the changing scenery: the city fades into the distance and an impressive tropical rainforest landscape emerges.
Upon arrival at the lodge, you will be welcomed with a refreshing drink made from Amazonian fruits. After settling into your room, you will have some time to relax and enjoy the natural surroundings.
First Jungle Walk : In the afternoon, we will take an interpretive walk through the rainforest. Accompanied by a local guide, you will learn about some of the species of trees, plants, birds, and insects that are part of this extraordinary ecosystem.
Keep your eyes open: along the trail, you may encounter monkeys, tropical birds, butterflies, and other inhabitants of the rainforest.
Monkey Island : After lunch, we will travel by boat to Monkey Island, where you can observe different species of primates in their natural environment. Depending on the conditions of the day, you may encounter squirrel monkeys, capuchins, and other species characteristic of the area.
Caimans Under the Stars : As night falls, we will take a boat excursion along the river to search for caimans along the riverbanks. The darkness completely transforms the landscape and offers the opportunity to discover some of Tambopata’s nocturnal wildlife.
With a little luck, we may also spot capybaras or other animals approaching the river.
We will return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 2: Sandoval Lake and Wildlife of Tambopata National Reserve
After breakfast, we will head to one of the most iconic destinations in the Peruvian
Amazon: Sandoval Lake –After traveling by boat along the river, we will begin an approximately 3-kilometer (1.9-mile) walk through the rainforest to reach the lake. The trail offers an opportunity to get a close look at Amazonian vegetation and discover small species that often go unnoticed.
Exploring Sandoval Lake : Once at the lake, we will explore its waters by traditional paddle boats. This peaceful activity allows us to enjoy the scenery and search for wildlife without the noise of an engine.
During the boat ride, you may observe different species of birds and primates, including hoatzins, herons, ospreys, capuchin monkeys, and howler monkeys.
One of the main highlights of Sandoval Lake is the possibility of spotting giant river otters, one of the most iconic species of Amazonian wildlife. There is also a chance of observing black caimans in certain areas of the lake.
Wildlife sightings always depend on natural conditions and animal behavior, so every excursion is different.
Night Walk in the Amazon :After lunch and our return to the lodge, we will prepare for another unique experience: a
nighttime jungle walk. :With the help of flashlights, we will discover a completely different rainforest. Frogs, insects, spiders, and other small inhabitants become active after dark.
The sounds of the forest, the humidity, and the darkness make this walk one of the most memorable experiences of the trip.
Day 3: Amazon Adventure – Canopy Walk, Zipline, Kayaking, and Fishing
The third day combines nature and adventure.
We will start early with a visit to the Canopy Walkway, a system of elevated bridges that allows you to experience the rainforest from a different perspective.
Canopy Walkway: The Rainforest from Above
From the platforms and bridges, you will be able to admire the treetops and, with a little luck, observe birds that would normally be difficult to spot from the ground.
Toucans, macaws, oropendolas, and other species may appear among the vegetation. Sunrise also offers a special atmosphere as the rainforest begins to awaken.
Ziplining in Tambopata –After breakfast, it will be time for adventure -The Amazonian zipline will allow you to glide above the rainforest and enjoy a different perspective of the jungle. The activity is carried out following established safety procedures and under the supervision of specialized staff.
Kayaking on the Madre de Dios River : After lunch, we will continue with a more relaxing activity: a kayaking excursion.
Paddling along the river allows you to enjoy the Amazonian landscape at a leisurely pace and appreciate the vegetation growing along its banks.
Traditional Amazonian Fishing : To finish the day, we will take part in a traditional fishing experience. Using local techniques and depending on river conditions, we will try to catch some of the fish species that inhabit these waters.
As the sun sets, you can enjoy one of the most special moments of the day: the changing colors over the river and the beginning of the rainforest’s nighttime activity.
Day 4: Farewell to Tambopata and Return to Puerto Maldonado
After breakfast, it will be time to say goodbye to the rainforest.
We will board the boat once again and travel back toward Puerto Maldonado, enjoying the Madre de Dios River scenery one last time.
Once back in the city, we will continue with the transfer to the airport or bus terminal, depending on your next destination.
