Day 1: Arrival in Puerto Maldonado & Journey to Tambopata Lodge

Your Amazon adventure begins upon arrival in Puerto Maldonado, where our team will greet you at the airport or bus terminal. A brief stop at our main office ensures you’re registered and prepared before we set off at 8:30 AM.

A scenic two-hour drive takes us to Tambopata Port, where a motorized boat awaits. As we cruise along the Tambopata River for approximately 50 minutes, keep your eyes open for fascinating wildlife—colorful birds, capybaras, white caimans, sunbathing turtles, and, if you’re lucky, a jaguar lounging along the shore.

Upon arriving at Tambopata Lodge, a refreshing Amazonian drink welcomes you before settling into your comfortable eco-lodge. After a delicious lunch, immerse yourself in the pristine rainforest on a guided nature walk, where ancient trees coexist with monkeys, butterflies, frogs, and remarkable insects.

As night falls, embark on an exhilarating nocturnal jungle walk, using flashlights to spot caimans and other nocturnal creatures. Return to your lodge for a restful night, surrounded by the sounds of the rainforest.

Day 2: Macaw Clay Lick at Chuncho & Jungle Exploration

Start the day at 5:00 AM with a breathtaking sunrise as we navigate up the Tambopata River for an hour and 20 minutes. Keep your camera ready—this is prime time for spotting jaguars or anacondas along the riverbanks.

Arriving at the famous Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick inside the Tambopata National Reserve, we settle into a strategically placed blind for the ultimate viewing experience. Watch as flocks of vibrant Scarlet and Red Macaws descend upon the clay-rich riverbank, engaging in a dazzling display of color and sound while replenishing essential minerals. Enjoy breakfast as you take in this unforgettable natural phenomenon.

After returning to the lodge for lunch and a short rest, continue your jungle exploration on foot. Your guide will introduce you to the Amazon’s diverse flora and fauna, highlighting its hidden wonders. After dinner, another night walk presents an opportunity to hear the jungle’s mesmerizing symphony and possibly spot nocturnal wildlife such as tarantulas, night monkeys, or snakes.

Day 3: Fishing, Swimming & Mammal Clay Lick Adventure

Awake to the calls of howler monkeys and birds before enjoying a hearty breakfast. A short boat ride downstream brings us to Gato String, where you can try your hand at traditional fishing techniques, catching species like catfish and sardines.

Next, cool off with a refreshing swim in a secluded jungle stream, surrounded by lush vegetation. In the afternoon, visit a local farm to learn about Amazonian agriculture before trekking to the Mammal Clay Lick. This hidden gem attracts a variety of wildlife, including deer, wild pigs, and howler monkeys seeking essential nutrients.

After dinner, gather around a cozy campfire to hear Amazonian myths and stories shared by your guide, offering a deeper understanding of the jungle’s mystical allure.

Day 4: Return to Puerto Maldonado & Cultural Visit

On your final day, enjoy a leisurely breakfast before packing up for the return journey to Puerto Maldonado. As we cruise back down the river, we’ll make a few stops, including Lake Condenado, the Three Chimbadas, and a visit to a native community known as Hell. Here, you’ll have the chance to interact with locals, learn about their customs, and gain insight into their sustainable way of life.
