To enjoy the Full-Day Sandoval Lake excursion on the final day, please consider the following:
Your arrival flight to Puerto Maldonado should land by 9:30 a.m. or earlier on Day 1.
Alternatively, your departure flight on the final day should be scheduled after 5:00 p.m.
This schedule allows enough time to fully enjoy all jungle activities without rushing.

Day 1: Arrival in Puerto Maldonado – Enter the Amazon Rainforest
Your adventure begins in Puerto Maldonado, the gateway to Peru’s southern Amazon.
After arrival, travel deep into the rainforest with a scenic transfer:
Approximately 2-hour land journey
Approximately 30-minute boat ride along the Tambopata River
Reach your eco-lodge located near the Tambopata National Reserve, where comfort meets authentic jungle immersion.
Afternoon Activities
Begin exploring the rainforest with a guided jungle walk. Your naturalist guide will introduce you to the incredible ecosystem surrounding the lodge.
Possible wildlife sightings include:
Monkeys moving through the canopy : Tropical birds , Butterflies , Medicinal plants
Unique rainforest species
Later, enjoy sunset views from the 50-meter canopy observation tower, offering panoramic views over the jungle.
After dark, choose an optional nighttime river excursion to search for caimans and observe the Amazon after sunset.

Day 2: Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick – Amazon Wildlife Spectacle
Wake before sunrise for one of the most unforgettable experiences in the Peruvian Amazon: a visit to the famous Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick.
At dawn, hundreds of colorful parrots and macaws gather at the clay wall to consume mineral-rich soil, creating one of nature’s most impressive wildlife displays.
Possible sightings include:
Scarlet Macaws , Green-winged Macaws ,Blue-and-yellow Macaws , Amazon parrots , Parakeets .
After enjoying this incredible spectacle, relax with breakfast surrounded by rainforest scenery.
Afternoon Amazon Activities : Continue exploring the Tambopata ecosystem with activities such as:

Day 3: Mammal Clay Lick & Amazon Fishing Experience
Today’s adventure focuses on the mammals and traditional lifestyle of the Amazon rainforest.
Explore jungle trails leading to areas where wildlife gathers, including mammal clay licks.
Possible sightings include:
Squirrel monkeys , Brown capuchin monkeys , Red howler monkeys , Peccaries , Tropical birds
Your guide will share knowledge about Amazon survival techniques, medicinal plants, and rainforest ecology.
Traditional Amazon Fishing : In the afternoon, enjoy an authentic fishing experience on the Tambopata River.
Possible catches include:
Pacu , Payara , Amazon catfish species
This activity provides a unique opportunity to connect with local Amazon traditions.

Day 4: Sandoval Lake Expedition – Jewel of the Tambopata Reserve
On your final day, return toward Puerto Maldonado and continue your journey to Sandoval Lake, one of the most beautiful oxbow lakes in the Amazon Basin.
After a short boat ride, enjoy a guided 3-kilometer rainforest hike through the protected area until you reach the lake.
Sandoval Lake is famous for its peaceful waters, rich wildlife, and extraordinary biodiversity.
During your visit, you may observe:
Giant river otters , Red howler monkeys , Brown capuchins , Squirrel monkeys , Toucans , Caimans ,
Numerous bird species
Enjoy lunch beside the lake before returning to Puerto Maldonado for your departure flight or onward journey.

What to take with you to the Peru Tambopata:
- Mosquito repellent (DEET 35 recommended as a MINIMUM!!),
- Original passport,

- Long sleeved cotton shirts (preferably green coloured),
- Long cotton trousers,
- Cotton long socks (to be put into your trousers),
- Comfortable walking shoes,
- Sandals or light shoes,
- Rain gear (e.g. rain poncho),
- Sweater (for the beginning of the tour in Andes and the cloud forest only),
- Swimsuits;
