Day 1: Arrival in Puerto Maldonado – Gateway to the Rainforest

Airport or terminal pickup and briefing at our Puerto Maldonado office.

  • 4x4 transfer deep into the rainforest (50 km) to the Tambopata River Port.
  • Scenic boat ride along the Tambopata River—a chance to photograph turtles, caimans, and vibrant birds.
  • Arrival at your jungle lodge, followed by lunch and check-in.

Introductory rainforest walk: macro and wildlife photography of camouflaged insects, frogs, and mammals.

Day 2: Macaws in Flight – A Photographer’s Dream

Pre-dawn departure for El Chuncho Clay Lick, the world’s largest.

  • Witness and photograph hundreds of parrots and macaws in an explosion of color and sound.
  • Return to the lodge for a hearty breakfast and rest.
  • Afternoon visit to a botanical garden: document unique medicinal plants and fruit trees.

Day 2: Macaw Clay Lick Experience at El Chuncho.

Depart at 4:30 AM for El Chuncho Clay Lick, home to the world’s largest gathering of macaws. Witness an unforgettable natural show as parrots and macaws feast on the mineral-rich clay. Later, paddle a kayak on the Tambopata River and wrap up the day with a night walk through the jungle.

Day 3: Wildlife Expedition in the Amazon.

Return to Puerto Maldonado and transfer to a different lodge. Take a two-hour nature walk to encounter toucans, oropendolas, and monkeys in their native habitat. Visit Monkey Island and discover local fauna, including capybaras and caimans.

Day 4: Sandoval Lake – A Natural Sanctuary.

Day 1: Arrival in Puerto Maldonado – Gateway to the Rainforest

Your journey begins with a warm welcome at the Puerto Maldonado airport or bus terminal. After a short stop at the tour operator’s office for a final briefing and to safely store excess luggage, we venture deep into the jungle. A 4×4 vehicle takes us 50 km to the Tambopata River Port, where your Amazon adventure truly begins.

As we cruise by boat along the Tambopata River, watch for vibrant birdlife, sunbathing turtles, and even elusive caimans.

Upon arriving at our jungle lodge, enjoy a hearty lunch and settle into your private room.

In the afternoon, an introductory rainforest hike offers your first glimpse into the Amazon’s staggering biodiversity—from camouflaged insects to curious mammals and brightly colored amphibians.

Day 2:  Photography in Peru Amazonia – Macaws in Flight – A Photographer’s Dream

We rise before dawn to witness one of nature’s most spectacular scenes at El Chuncho Clay Lick, the largest of its

kind in the world. After a peaceful 1.5-hour boat ride, you’ll photograph hundreds of parrots and macaws as they

gather at the mineral-rich clay banks. Their kaleidoscope of colors and cacophony of calls provide perfect subjects for unforgettable photos.

Back at the lodge, enjoy a relaxed breakfast and some leisure time. In the afternoon, we’ll visit a botanical garden teeming with medicinal plants, rare fruits, and towering rainforest trees.

Later, take to the river on a peaceful kayaking expedition an intimate way to photograph Amazonian wildlife from the water. As night falls, join a guided walk to discover the hidden world of nocturnal creatures.

Day 3:  Photography in Peru Amazonia  –  Monkey Island & Rainforest Walks – Deeper Into the Wild

After breakfast, we return to Puerto Maldonado and settle into a new eco-lodge along the Madre de Dios River.

Recharge with a refreshing Amazonian fruit juice before a two-hour hike with a naturalist guide. Capture the textures and patterns of ancient trees and photograph vibrant wildlife including monkeys, toucans, and oropendolas.

In the afternoon, we cross the river to Monkey Island, where playful troops of capuchins and tamarins offer outstanding photo opportunities.

As dusk approaches, scan the riverbanks for capybaras and caimans—another chance to capture the jungle’s elusive giants.

Day 4:  Photography in Peru Amazonia – Lake Sandoval – Into the Heart of Biodiversity

Today, we journey deeper into the rainforest with a 3-kilometer hike to Lake Sandoval, a shimmering jewel within the protected Tambopata Reserve.

Glide silently across its waters in a wooden canoe, camera ready for sightings of hoatzins, herons, jacanas, and maybe even giant river otters.

This peaceful, remote setting is a paradise for photographers and nature lovers alike. After a traditional Amazonian dinner back at the lodge, opt for a night walk to discover glow-in-the-dark fungi, tree frogs, and secretive nocturnal animals.

Day 5: Sunrise from the Canopy – Farewell, Amazon

Our final morning begins with a short walk to a canopy bridge, suspended 30 meters above the jungle floor. As the sun rises, capture sweeping views of the rainforest and photograph brilliantly colored birds macaws, toucans, tanagers soaring through the treetops.

After breakfast, we return to Puerto Maldonado for your flight or bus journey home taking with you not just stunning photos, but deep memories of a once-in-a-lifetime journey through the Amazon.
