Day 1: Arrival in Puerto Maldonado – Into the Heart of Tambopata National Reserve
Upon arrival at the Puerto Maldonado airport or bus terminal, our local guides will warmly welcome you and transfer you to our tour office. Here, you’ll receive a detailed briefing before your rainforest adventure begins.

To travel light and comfortably, we suggest storing any unnecessary luggage at our secure office and packing only essentials for the expedition.

Your adventure starts with a 4×4 overland journey of approximately 50 km through pristine jungle landscapes to the Tambopata River port. There, a scenic boat ride awaits, offering early chances to photograph colorful birds, river turtles, and even small caimans.

Upon arrival at our jungle lodge, settle into your private room and enjoy a hearty Amazonian lunch (based on arrival time). In the afternoon, take your first guided walk into the rainforest, where you’ll discover fascinating creatures like tree frogs, monkeys, reptiles, and unusual insects—a perfect introduction to the wonders of the jungle.

Day 2: Wildlife Photography – Macaw Spectacle at Chuncho Clay Lick
Your day begins before sunrise, at 4:30 AM, with an awe-inspiring boat journey to the Chuncho Clay Lick, the largest of its kind in the world. This 1.5-hour ride along the misty Tambopata River may offer sightings of capybaras, peccaries, tapirs, and—if you’re lucky—the elusive jaguar.

At the clay lick, you’ll witness an incredible natural show: dozens of parrots and macaws from up to 11 species gather to feed on the mineral-rich cliffs. The air fills with the vibrant flashes of red, green, blue, and yellow as these birds soar and socialize—a rare and unforgettable opportunity for photographers.

Return to the lodge for a well-earned breakfast and a chance to relax. In the afternoon, visit a botanical garden to learn about local fruit trees, medicinal plants, and ancient hardwoods. Later, enjoy a peaceful kayaking excursion through quiet stretches of the Tambopata River, where you might encounter large aquatic mammals or playful birds along the banks.

After dinner, an optional guided night walk invites you to discover the Amazon’s nocturnal life—tree frogs, bioluminescent fungi, and peculiar insects come alive after dark.

Day 3: From Tambopata Reserve to Puerto Maldonado – Cultural Lodge Experience
After breakfast, board a boat back to Puerto Maldonado and transfer to a comfortable eco-lodge. Upon arrival, a refreshing glass of tropical juice awaits you.

Once settled, we’ll take a two-hour nature walk led by a knowledgeable guide. Discover the secrets of centuries-old trees and observe native fauna such as oropendolas, toucans, and agile monkey species moving through the forest canopy.

After lunch, we’ll cross the Madre de Dios River to visit the famous Monkey Island, a natural refuge for rescued and wild monkeys including brown capuchins, squirrel monkeys, and saddleback tamarins.

As the sun sets, embark on a thrilling river expedition to spot nocturnal animals like caimans and possibly capybaras along the muddy banks.

Day 4: Lake Sandoval Exploration – Nature & Wildlife Safari
Today’s highlight is a 3-kilometer jungle hike to Lake Sandoval, a serene oxbow lake surrounded by towering palm trees and flooded forest. Glide silently across the mirror-like waters in a paddle canoe, photographing shy hoatzins, jacanas, herons, and perhaps even the rare and endangered giant river otters.

This peaceful yet exhilarating wildlife experience offers spectacular photographic opportunities and deep immersion in Amazonian nature.

Return to the lodge in the evening for a traditional dinner. If you’re still craving adventure, an optional night walk through the jungle reveals the Amazon’s mysterious nightlife—colorful frogs, unusual insects, and hidden animal calls echo through the trees.

Day 5: Farewell to the Jungle – Canopy Bridge & Departure
At 5:30 AM, take a final walk through the forest to reach a 30-meter-high canopy bridge. From this spectacular viewpoint, you’ll enjoy sweeping panoramas of the Madre de Dios River and observe toucans, macaws, and tanagers gliding through the morning light.

After breakfast, we’ll say goodbye to this unforgettable rainforest haven and transfer you to the airport or bus terminal for your onward journey.
