What Is Ayahuasca? A Deep Dive into the «Vine of the Soul»
The name ayahuasca comes from the Quechua language: aya meaning “spirit” or “dead” and huasca meaning “vine”
or “rope”—hence, “the vine of the soul.” This ancient decoction is made by brewing the Banisteriopsis caapi vine with
leaves containing dimethyltryptamine (DMT), typically from the Psychotria viridis plant.
Day 1: From Lima or Cusco to Puerto Maldonado. Mystical Tourism in Amazon 4 days
Welcome to the Heart of the Amazon Rainforest Your spiritual adventure begins the moment you arrive in Puerto Maldonado, the gateway to the southern Amazon photographi .
At the airport, our experienced local guides will warmly welcome you to the Ayahuasca Expedition.
At our eco-lodge office, you’ll receive a detailed orientation about the journey ahead and safely store your main
luggage before venturing into the jungle with just your essentials — a true immersion in pristine nature.
We board a motorized canoe to navigate the mighty Madre de Dios River, surrounded by lush tropical landscapes.
Keep your eyes open for vibrant jungle birds and — with a bit of luck — monkeys, capybaras, and other fascinating mammals along the riverbanks.
Our first adventure: the Canopy Walkway, a series of suspension bridges 60 meters high above the forest floor, offers
breathtaking panoramic views. Feel your adrenaline surge as you glide like a harpy eagle across the canopy on an exhilarating zipline.
Next, we enter Sandoval Lake National Reserve, hiking 3 kilometers along elevated wooden trails through virgin rainforest.
At a hidden jungle port, we switch to a traditional canoe and paddle through narrow channels flanked by towering trees and jungle sounds.
Upon arriving at our secluded eco-lodge, settle into your private room and embrace the tranquility of the Amazon.
In the afternoon, we explore the enchanting Lake Sandoval, a sanctuary for black caimans, giant river otters, howler monkeys, turtles, and dozens of rare and colorful bird species.
As night falls, join a guided nocturnal walk — a magical experience where the jungle reveals its secret life: tarantulas,
leaf frogs, night monkeys, and more appear under the moonlight.
End the day with a nourishing dinner and a peaceful night in your private bungalow, surrounded by the calming symphony of the rainforest.
Day 2: Lake Sandoval – Wildlife Encounters and Pristine Jungle Trek Mystical Amazon Tour – 4 Days
Wake to the sound of birdsong and distant howler monkeys as the forest comes alive. After a tropical breakfast, we
canoe once more through the calm waters of Lake Sandoval, one of the best times to spot giant river otters, black
caimans, turtles, herons, kingfishers, and the prehistoric-looking hoatzin.
After lunch and a short rest, we venture deep into primary rainforest, where trees rise up to 90 meters (295 feet).
Discover a world of medicinal plants, wild orchids, lichens, heliconias, and other natural wonders used in traditional healing practices.
Stay alert for sloths, armadillos, squirrel monkeys, butterflies, brightly colored reptiles, and unusual insects — every step reveals something new.
At sunset, return to Lake Sandoval for a second nocturnal excursion. As night envelops the forest, the jungle
transforms — nocturnal animals emerge and ancient forest sounds echo in the dark.
Day 3: Sacred Jungle Walk and Ayahuasca Ceremony. Mystical Tourism in Amazon 4 days
A Journey of Spiritual Transformation At dawn, we travel to a sacred spot in the rainforest where macaws, parrots,
and parakeets gather around aguajales (palm swamps) for their morning feast.
This breathtaking display of color and sound embodies the vibrant soul of the jungle.
After breakfast, we paddle into hidden corners of the lake, entering untouched jungle via ancient trails. Guided by
traditional knowledge, you’ll learn about powerful healing plants and may even encounter tapirs or wild peccaries in their natural habitat.
In the afternoon, choose between traditional fishing with local techniques or a spiritual mud bath with medicinal clay
and crystal-clear spring water — an ideal way to prepare for the sacred ceremony ahead.
At 10:00 PM, under the protection of a consecrated ceremonial hut, we begin the Ayahuasca Ceremony, led by a respected Amazonian shaman.
This profound spiritual experience opens the door to deep introspection and cosmic connection.
As the shaman chants sacred icaros and shakes the shacapa (healing leaves), you’ll enter a realm of spiritual cleansing, inner healing, and reconnection with the essence of life.
A trained guide will be by your side throughout to ensure your comfort, safety, and integration.
Day 4: Farewell to Lake Sandoval – Return to Puerto Maldonado. Mystical Amazon Tour – 4 Days
After a night of deep transformation, awaken refreshed and reconnected. Following a final breakfast, we pack up and glide once more through the emerald jungle by canoe.
We hike back to the edge of the reserve, where our boat awaits to return us to Puerto Maldonado. There, you’ll

Ayahuasca Experience: Spiritual Guidance, Purification, and Inner Transformation
Deep within the lush Amazon rainforest, ayahuasca ceremonies are led by spiritual masters or guides, commonly known as shamans, who hold vast ancestral wisdom. These traditional healers not only prepare the sacred brew but also accompany participants throughout the entire journey, guiding the experience through powerful chants, native instruments, and energetic protection.
Once the ayahuasca is ingested, intense and immediate physical effects begin to manifest—such as nausea, vomiting, sweating, and diarrhea. Although these reactions may seem unpleasant, in the ceremonial context they are seen as essential aspects of spiritual cleansing and inner purification. According to the Amazonian worldview, these physiological responses symbolize the release of negative energies, deep-seated traumas, hidden fears, and emotional blockages accumulated over time.
More than just a medicinal or spiritual ritual, the ayahuasca experience attracts those who seek a deeper connection with Mother Nature, inner healing, and personal growth. With the rising popularity of spiritual tourism in Peru, this ancient ceremony has become one of the most sought-after experiences by conscious travelers and soul seekers from around the world.
