What is Ayahuasca? A Powerful Ancestral Brew from the Amazon Rainforest
Ayahuasca is a sacred brew with deep roots in the Amazonian rainforest. This powerful plant medicine is traditionally prepared by boiling two “master plants”: the Banisteriopsis caapi vine and the leaves of chacruna (Diplopterys cabrerana). Used for centuries by Indigenous tribes across the Amazon, ayahuasca ceremonies are profound rituals of healing, spiritual vision, and deep connection with nature.
What makes ayahuasca truly unique are its psychoactive properties, which can induce expanded states of consciousness. These visionary experiences are always guided by experienced shamans or healers, who sing icaros (sacred songs) and protect the participants during the journey.
In modern times, ayahuasca has become a cornerstone of spiritual ecotourism in Peru and other parts of the Amazon basin. Travelers seeking transformation, healing, and a deeper understanding of themselves and the universe often participate in ayahuasca retreats under the supervision of traditional Amazonian healers
