Day 1: Arrival in Puerto Maldonado – Welcome to Collpas Tambopata Inn

Welcome to Puerto Maldonado, the gateway to the Amazon! Upon arrival, enjoy a scenic 2-hour bus ride followed by a 30-minute boat journey to Collpas Tambopata Inn. On your way, you’ll be welcomed with a refreshing local drink, and a brief introduction to the lodge will set the stage for your Amazon adventure.

Collpas Tambopata Inn is a spacious, eco-friendly lodge nestled in the heart of the Tambopata National Reserve, surrounded by lush jungle, monkeys, and vibrant bird species. The lodge features comfortable accommodations, ranging from 24 m² rooms to 68 m² suites with private bathrooms and windows that open to the forest’s sights and sounds.

Your stay includes three daily meals, tea and coffee, guided excursions, and activities. Each group is kept small (maximum 10 guests per guide) for an intimate and personalized experience. Plus, we’ll take care of your airport transfers.

In the afternoon, embark on an introductory hike through the primary rainforest. Discover the most important medicinal plants and keep an eye out for the seven species of monkeys and countless birds that call the Amazon home. The experience culminates with a visit to our 50-meter canopy tower for a breathtaking view of the rainforest.

As night falls, join us for a boat ride along the Tambopata River to spot black and white caimans in their natural habitat. This is a fantastic opportunity to observe these fascinating reptiles up close.

Day 2: Explore Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick

Rise early for a chance to witness the Amazon’s wildlife at its most active. At dawn, head to the Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick, one of the most vibrant wildlife spectacles in the Amazon. Each year, macaws and hundreds of parrots flock to the riverbank to ingest the mineral-rich clay, a behavior critical for their diet. From a discreet 60-80 meters away, you’ll observe Green-winged, Scarlet, and Blue-and-gold Macaws, among other parrot species, as they display their dazzling colors.

Breakfast will be served with an incredible view of the Clay Lick Chuncho, where you can savor your meal while watching the birds.

In the afternoon, embark on a river adventure, either by kayak or boat. Paddle along serene waterways, observing capybaras, turtles, and river birds in their natural habitat. This two-hour excursion offers unique wildlife sightings and tranquil Amazon scenery.

As night falls, join us for a night hike to discover the Amazon’s more elusive creatures. Encounter frogs with bizarre shapes and calls, tarantulas, and, with some luck, perhaps a snake.

Day 3: A Full Day at Sandoval Lake

After a hearty breakfast at the Tambopata Hostel in Puerto Maldonado, we’ll journey to the main port to begin another adventure into the heart of the Amazon—Sandoval Lake.

Sandoval Lake is a pristine oxbow lake within the Tambopata National Reserve, home to an incredible diversity of wildlife. After a 40-minute boat ride, we’ll take a 3 km hike through the rainforest to the lake’s edge. Here, you can enjoy a tranquil atmosphere surrounded by lush greenery, with a good chance of spotting monkeys like the red howler monkey, brown capuchin, and squirrel monkey.

Look out for Giant river otters, who can often be spotted near the lake. There’s a 40% chance of seeing them during your visit. Enjoy lunch at the lake’s edge, taking in the serene beauty of this natural wonder.

As the day ends, it’s time to say goodbye to the rainforest. Your visit supports local conservation efforts through Wired Amazon and the Tambopata National Reserve, leaving a lasting positive impact on the region.

Conclusion
After a memorable three-day journey, you will return to Puerto Maldonado for your return trip to the city’s bus station or airport. Your experience at Collpas Tambopata Inn provides an authentic and immersive Amazon adventure that you will cherish for years to come.
