Day 1: Arrival and First Encounter with Lake Sandoval
Reception in Puerto Maldonado and transfer to the port for a boat trip on the Madre de Dios River. After a hike through the rainforest, arrival at Lake Sandoval and the lodge. In the afternoon, a boat trip to observe macaws, toucans, and other birds. After dinner, a night excursion to search for black caimans and enjoy the Amazonian sky.
Day 2: Wildlife, Flora, and Adventure in the Rainforest
At dawn, a boat tour to observe giant otters and water birds. After breakfast, a hike through the primary forest to see ancient trees, medicinal plants, and wildlife such as monkeys, sloths, and toucans. At dusk, a night hike to discover amphibians, insects, and nocturnal species.
Day 3: Palm Clay Lick and Amazonian Experiences
A visit at dawn to a palm clay lick, where it is possible to observe macaws and parrots feeding. Later, a tour to learn about medicinal plants and a botanical garden. In the afternoon, enjoy a clay bath, sport fishing, and time to watch the sunset over the rainforest.
Day 4: Return to Puerto Maldonado
A morning boat trip on Lake Sandoval offers a final opportunity to observe giant otters and other wildlife. After breakfast, return by boat and transfer to Puerto Maldonado to continue the journey.

Enjoy a 4-day adventure at Sandoval Lake Lodge, located in the Tambopata National Reserve. Explore Lake Sandoval by canoe and discover the incredible biodiversity of the Amazon rainforest accompanied by expert guides. During the tour, you’ll observe iconic species such as giant otters, monkeys, caimans, and a wide variety of birds, experiencing a unique adventure in one of the richest ecosystems on Earth.
Day 1: Arrival in Puerto Maldonado & Sandoval Lake Excursion
Welcome at the airport and transfer to the Tambopata River dock, followed by a motorized canoe ride into the Amazon. At Puerto Sandoval, begin a 3-kilometer jungle trek teeming with butterflies, vibrant birds, and remarkable flora.
Rainforest Peru Tripsadvisor Lago sandoval Board paddle boats through a flooded palm forest to the serene Lake Sandoval, keeping watch for the giant river otter and the enormous paiche (one of the world’s largest freshwater fish).
Later, enjoy sightings of stunning macaws returning to roost. After dinner, head out again in search of the black caiman, a rare species still thriving in this protected ecosystem. On clear nights, marvel at the star-studded skies over the lake.
Day 2: Sunrise & Wildlife Trekking The Wildlife Adventure Jungle .
Start early to witness sunrise over Lake Sandoval — a prime time for viewing otters and birds like kingfishers, tiger herons, and hoatzins, a distinctive prehistoric-looking species.
After breakfast, hike through primary rainforest and towering Brazil nut trees, keeping an eye out for sloths, toucans,
and capuchin monkeys. In the afternoon, visit monkey habitats, including groups of squirrel and howler monkeys.
After dinner, embark on a nighttime expedition to discover nocturnal wildlife in the Amazon.

Day 3: Macaw Palm Clay Lick – Amazon Medicinal Plants – Sunset Experience
On this day, we will wake up very early to visit the Palm Tree Clay Lick, where we will observe three species of macaws, along with parakeets and parrots.
These colorful birds arrive at dawn to feed on the fruit of the aguaje palm, which is rich in phytoestrogens, vitamin C, unsaturated fatty acids, and beta-carotenoids. After this amazing wildlife experience, we return to the lodge for breakfast.
Later in the morning, we’ll have the opportunity to discover the secrets of Amazonian natural medicine. During a guided jungle walk, we will learn about plants with healing properties, such as:
Palm ginger, traditionally used as an anti-inflammatory, Cinchona tree, whose bark has played a vital role in the treatment of malaria, and many other medicinal species used by indigenous communities.
We will also visit a botanical garden, where some of these valuable plants are cultivated for conservation purposes. In the afternoon, we’ll explore the remotest part of the jungle, on the north shore of the lake, where you can enjoy an
unforgettable Amazon sunset surrounded by pristine nature.
Day 4: Farewell to the Jungle
Take one last morning canoe ride through the palm swamps, hoping for a final glimpse of the otters and morning birds. After breakfast, return by boat to Puerto Maldonado for transfer to the airport.
Take with you a heart full of memories and a camera full of amazing Amazonian moments.
