Day 1: Puerto Maldonado – Sandoval Lake – Night Caiman Spotting .

Your adventure begins with a warm welcome at the airport or bus terminal in Puerto Maldonado. We’ll escort you to our Wildlife Travel Sandoval Lake Lodge office, where you can safely store any unnecessary luggage.

From there, we set off on a 50-minute motorized boat ride along the scenic Madre de Dios River, surrounded by lush jungle landscapes and vibrant birdlife.

Amazon Rainforest Upon arrival at the Tambopata Reserve checkpoint, we’ll begin a 3 km guided hike through the forest, making fascinating nature stops along the way.

At the end of the trail, we’ll board a traditional paddle canoe that glides across the mirror-like waters of Sandoval Lake, taking you to our cozy lodge.

feast on the vitamin-rich fruit of the aguaje palm. This superfruit is packed with vitamins A, C, and E, as well as

Day 1: Arrival in Puerto Maldonado – Your Amazon Adventure Begins

welcome. We’ll head to our local office for a short orientation and to securely store any large luggage—you’ll bring
only what’s needed for the jungle expedition.

We then travel to the port, where a motorized canoe will carry you along the Madre de Dios River, one of the main
tributaries of the Amazon, toward the entrance to Sandoval Lake Tours .

After a 30-minute ride, you’ll begin a scenic 3 km (1.8-mile) jungle walk—an ideal chance to spot tropical birds,

On this day, we will wake up very early to visit the Palm Tree Clay Lick, where we will observe three species of macaws, along with parakeets and parrots.

These colorful birds arrive at dawn to feed on the fruit of the aguaje palm, which is rich in phytoestrogens, vitamin C, unsaturated fatty acids, and beta-carotenoids. After this amazing wildlife experience, we return to the lodge for breakfast.

Later in the morning, we’ll have the opportunity to discover the secrets of Amazonian natural medicine. During a guided jungle walk, we will learn about plants with healing properties, such as:

Palm ginger, traditionally used as an anti-inflammatory, Cinchona tree, whose bark has played a vital role in the treatment of malaria, and many other medicinal species used by indigenous communities.

We will also visit a botanical garden, where some of these valuable plants are cultivated for conservation purposes. In the afternoon, we’ll explore the remotest part of the jungle, on the north shore of the lake, where you can enjoy an

unforgettable Amazon sunset surrounded by pristine nature.

Day 4: Farewell to the Jungle

Take one last morning canoe ride through the palm swamps, hoping for a final glimpse of the otters and morning birds. After breakfast, return by boat to Puerto Maldonado for transfer to the airport.
